When was the last time you were in a restaurant and wasn’t sure what you wanted to buy from the menu? Perhaps you were caught between two options that you favoured? Maybe you looked at the people with you to see if they would help influence your decision? This is a perfect display of indecisiveness. This means that you don’t know what to decide when you are presented with an option or options.
Being decisive when it comes to your food menu isn’t necessarily important. However, being decisive when it comes to executing your plans, fulfilling your purpose, and pursuing your goals is essential to achievement. When you think in terms of opposites you will understand my point… The opposite of decision is hesitation. Hesitation is the pause you take before doing something. Hesitation can cause you to miss out on an opportunity, forget a fleeting thought, doubt your actions and intentions, and stop the actions you are taking towards achievement.
Being decisive is about taking control of your decisions and being the leader of your own life. If you tend to play the second player in your own life, let others lead your life for you, and don’t take accountability or responsibility… Start a life of decisiveness now! On the surface of everything, what we do in our day to day lives will seem regular and TV-show like, like the Simpsons. But if you peel a layer back into why you make the decisions you make, you will begin to learn about your strengths and flaws. I have gone off topic, I apologise… the focus of this is decisiveness.
One factor that could be preventing your decisiveness is fear, fear of – judgement, failure, opinions, mistakes. You may fear the consequences of your decisions, so you hold back and play it safe. That cannot be a justification if you are trying to accomplish the important things in your life. If you know deep down in your heart that your fear is not rational or reasonable enough, don’t allow it to stop you. Only you know if your feelings are justified or if you are trying to make excuses because you are afraid of what happens when you try. Practice courage so you can practice decisiveness.
